Charleston engagement session

Some engagement sessions just feel easy from the very beginning, and this one with Grace and Mark was exactly that. We met on a quiet fall morning in downtown Charleston, when the air was crisp, the light was soft, and the city felt like it was slowly stretching awake. There was no rush, no pressure. Just good coffee, meaningful conversation, and the chance to spend time together in a place that will soon hold so much significance for them.

Grace and Mark are planning their destination wedding in Charleston in March 2026, and this Charleston engagement session felt like the start of that chapter. From the moment we sat down together, it was clear how thoughtful and connected they are, not just with each other, but with the experiences they choose and the places they’re drawn to.

Coffee, Conversation & Connection

We met at Harken Café, one of my favorite little spots in the heart of downtown Charleston. The air was cool, the sun filtered through the trees, and the patio felt calm and welcoming. Starting a Charleston engagement session this way always sets the tone. It gives couples a chance to slow down, settle in, and feel comfortable before the camera ever comes out.

Over coffee, we talked about everything from work to travel to their upcoming wedding plans. Grace, an engineer, and Mark, a landscape architect, both live in Brooklyn and share a deep appreciation for design, architecture, and creativity. That shared perspective made Charleston feel like a natural fit for their engagement photos and their wedding celebration.

Why They Chose Charleston

Although they had never visited Charleston before, Grace and Mark were immediately drawn to its mix of historic architecture and Southern warmth. As we talked more about their families, the choice made even more sense.

Mark is from Long Island, and Grace is from just north of New York City. They laughed as they shared that if they hosted their wedding in New York, many of their relatives likely wouldn’t attend. A March wedding in Charleston felt like the perfect invitation for everyone to gather somewhere beautiful, walkable, and welcoming.

That’s something I see often during a Charleston engagement session. Couples are drawn to the city not just for how it looks, but for how it feels.

A Shared Love for Travel and Experience

Conversation came easily as we talked about their wedding plans with Sweet Peach Planning and our shared love of travel. When we first met during their consultation call, Grace and Mark were sitting at the airport waiting to board a flight to Italy. That detail stayed with me, and it was fun to continue that conversation in person.

We talked about Italy’s landscapes, art, and culture, and it was clear how much they value experience and exploration. That mindset translates so beautifully into engagement photos. A Charleston engagement session works especially well for couples like them, who enjoy wandering, observing, and being present rather than overly posed or structured.

Exploring Downtown Charleston for Engagement Photos

After coffee, we wandered through nearby cobblestone streets, letting the session unfold naturally. Eventually, we found ourselves on Chalmers Street, one of the most iconic spots in downtown Charleston and a favorite location for engagement photos.

Like most couples, Grace and Mark had never been photographed professionally before. This session gave us time to talk through simple posing, easy movement, and what to expect on their wedding day. A Charleston engagement session is always about more than photos. It’s about building comfort and confidence in front of the camera.

Their laughter, playful energy, and natural connection made the session effortless. Those are always the moments I love capturing most.

Looking Ahead to Their Charleston Wedding

Grace and Mark will be married at The Parsonage in March 2026, and I already know their day will be filled with beauty, joy, and genuine connection. Their easygoing personalities and shared love for experience make them such a joy to photograph.

This session felt like the perfect beginning. It gave them space to explore the city, connect with each other, and start telling the visual story of their wedding season. I’m so excited to continue that story with them next spring.

If you’re planning a Charleston or destination wedding and want photos that feel natural, thoughtful, and true to your experience, I’d love to connect.
