Planning and capturing a surprise proposal is always a fantastic adventure. So, when Brad reached out via my website’s contact form regarding a surprise proposal, I was immediately excited and ready for something special. We scheduled a consultation phone call to iron out details on the location, my role during the proposal, and how we planned and hoped the moment would unfold.

Isle of Palms Surprise Proposal

Choosing the Proposal Location

Isle of Palms Beach is an ideal location for a surprise proposal. Its stunning views, pristine sandy beaches, and serene atmosphere make it a perfect backdrop for such a special moment. The beautiful sunrises and sunsets at Isle of Palms create a romantic ambiance that enhances the magic of a proposal. Plus, its proximity to Charleston offers convenience without compromising on natural beauty.

Photographer’s Role During the Proposal

During our phone consultation, Brad specified that he wanted me to blend into the background while he popped the question to Katie. When clients choose the blend-into-the-background option, I’m very careful to communicate what I’m wearing and how I look at that moment we’re meeting—preferably via text. This ensures that I remain inconspicuous and the surprise isn’t spoiled.

Surprise Proposal Plan

The plan was for Brad and Katie to meet a few friends at Beachside Burger’s & Bar at Wild Dunes Resort. Afterward, they would take a walk on the beach where I would be waiting, camera ready. But, there’s always a twist! On the night of the proposal, Brad and I were texting back and forth about the weather. A storm was approaching, and it seemed the proposal plan might be ruined. However, I’d been checking the weather frequently and believed the storm would blow over. Either way, I had a backup plan in mind if the bad weather took hold of the evening!

For kicks and giggles, below is a series of text between Brad and myself. (When planning and preparing for an event or session with me, I prefer the ease and efficiency of communicating via text and phone calls.)

Thankfully, the weather held up. Brad proposed to Katie on the beach, and to his joy she said, “Yes!”

To add to the proposal surprise, Katie’s family showed up one by one to congratulate them. It was a beautiful mix of surprise, love, and family.

Capturing moments like these reminds me why I love being a photographer. The joy, the tears, and the laughter are all priceless. Congratulations to Brad and Katie! Here’s to many more sunsets together.

If you’re planning to propose at Isle of Palms Beach, the greater Charleston area or have another perfect location in mind, I’m here to help plan and capture your special moment. Let’s connect!
